Senior Methodist Girls' School, Kuala Lumpur, is one of Malaysia's premier girls' school, with numerous prominent personalities having passed through and excelled in a variety of areas such as politics, sports, education, performing arts and of course the various professional fields. Such as: - Tan Sri Datin Paduka Seri Zaleha Ismail, Tan Sri Datuk Paduka Dr. Saleha Mohd Ali, Prof. Dato’ Dr. Sharifah Hapsah bt Syed Hassan Shahabudin, Tan Sri Datin Komala Devi,
Datin Dr. Gnanam Thuraiappah The Senior MGSKL Alumni committee meets monthly in the old bungalow next to the 6th Form building. What do we do when we meet? Believe it or not, we rake our brains for ways and means to contribute to the school, and its pupils, in whatever deserving and much needed way that we can think of, or that is brought to our attention by the school, ever mindful not to be taken advantage of, taken for granted, or taken for a ride. Towards this end, we work hand-in-glove with the Headmistress of the school, presently Puan Chia, and her group of advising teachers on various matters. This year, the alumni are very proud to say that it finally got its sponsorship programme off the ground. What is the sponsorship programme? It is a programme where us, old girls of the school, attempt to support some needy and deserving students towards greater heights academically, pursuit of study in a less disruptive and comfortable manner and the like. Why have we chosen to do this? It is because we have such fond memories of our time in school and we want the present-day girls to experience some of that with less of a hindrance. In a nutshell, it is a programme where needy and deserving students apply for some financial sponsorship to assist in certain areas where they may be experiencing some challenges. Selection of beneficiaries is based on a stringent interview process by members of the alumni as well as the responsible teachers of the school, and academic prowess is a major criterion. Our alumni members involved in the interview process were very often moved to tears by the different cases that they heard, touched to the core by the plight & predicament of each of the girls who applied for assistance. The cases that came forth were 13, 7 from the morning session & 6 from the afternoon session. All who applied were, in the end, granted assistance. A regular review process will implemented to gauge the present awardees, bearing in mind that academic prowess, achievement, and progress are paramount, in addition to each individual applicant’s personal circumstances, and to assess the qualification of any new applicants for this programme. Financial resources are scarce, mostly coming from the personal contributions of the alumnus through the committee’s network of personal contacts and members of the alumni so proper use of these funds have to be constantly and properly monitored. We wish all MGS girls success, especially the first batch of sponsorship recipients. We know you will do all of us proud, the school, the alumni and your friends and family. ONWARD, ONWARD M.G.S. FROM STRENGTH TO STRENGTH MARCH ON ALWAYS WITH UPLIFT HEART UNTIRING FEET MARCH TO THE GOAL OF LIGHT AND SUCCESS! Gathering of the ex-MGSians on 15th August 2009 |
